Donate
Every donation gets us one step closer to treatments, and ultimately a cure, for HD.
“ It is very important to our family to make a strong commitment to the HDF. It is foremost in our hearts that there will someday be a cure or a way to improve the lives of those who are at risk of HD. We have great confidence in the work that the Foundation is doing and we understand the necessity to support these dedicated and brilliant scientists who are working towards this goal.”

Planned Giving
Leave a Legacy of Hope
At the Hereditary Disease Foundation, we believe in the power of legacy. Your planned gift can be a beacon of hope for future generations, driving the mission to find treatments and ultimately a cure for Huntington’s disease and related disorders like ALS, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s disease.
Planned giving allows you to make a significant impact on the future of Huntington’s disease research while aligning with your financial and philanthropic goals. By including HDF in your estate plans, you ensure that groundbreaking research continues to advance, bringing us closer to life-changing treatments and cures.
Easy Estate Planning
We’ve partnered with FreeWill to offer an online estate planning tool that makes it easy and cost-free to make your plan. In as little as 20 minutes, you can help support our mission for future generations. This secure tool guides you through the process, making it easier than ever to create your will and include a legacy gift to HDF.
We invite you to explore the possibilities of planned giving and how your legacy can be part of our transformative mission. For more information, please contact us or click here to start your will today.
Together, we can create a future where Huntington’s disease is a thing of the past. Thank you for considering a lasting legacy with the Hereditary Disease Foundation.
Tax-smart gifts
Many individuals are increasingly choosing to give non-cash assets, which allows them to have a bigger impact at a lower cost. You can learn more below about gift opportunities that can maximize the impact of your support to the HDF while providing tax benefits for you!
A gift of highly appreciated stock or securities can often unlock savings from an unused asset. When structured properly, the gift results in avoidance or substantial reduction of capital gains tax as well as a charitable income tax deduction. Whether you hold your securities in certificate form or in a brokerage account, we can provide guidance on how to make the donation. Please call 212.928.2121 or email us to assist so that you do not inadvertently lose the tax advantage by selling the securities in advance of your gift.
If you are over 70 1/2 and hold an IRA, you may consider contributing a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to Hereditary Disease Foundation or another public charity. QCDs can be counted toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) as long as certain rules are met. Funds must be directly transferred to the charity from the IRA custodian company according to specified deadlines, and special tax filing requirements apply. Consult a tax advisor and your financial institution to determine if making an IRA QCD gift is appropriate for your situation. As of January 2024.
You are generally able to recommend in advance (on a form provided by the account manager) that at the end of your lifetime a lump-sum grant be made from your donor-advised fund account to charity. Check your donor-advised fund’s policies and guidelines to confirm the steps necessary to make this gift.
Gifts to Honor, Remember, and Celebrate
Celebrate an occasion – birthday, wedding, anniversary, graduation – by requesting participants give a donation to the HDF rather than sending gifts. Similarly, gifts in memory of a loved one may be requested in lieu of flowers at a memorial service or funeral.
If you participate in a sporting event, ask your friends and family to sponsor you with gifts to the HDF. Host your own event with proceeds going to support the HDF. Create a page in honor or in memory of a loved one or host an event and share your page with family and friends.
Corporate Matching Program
If you are affiliated with a company that provides matching funds for charitable donations by employees, please check with your company’s human resources office or your employee manual to potentially double or triple your gift.
